Everything is in walking distance from the flat. There is the Vermanes park near by, flower stalls. There is a plethora of super markets, coffee shops, restaurants and good shops within the surrounding area, including the local very reasonable Latvian eatery LIDO, both on Elizabetes Street and also on Dzirnavu Street (smaller and more character).

The flat is also a 10 minute walk from the famous Zeplin hanger food markets (directly behind the central train station) which are a must see in Riga. Here you can buy excellent salamis, cheese and wonderful fresh fish.

Riga also has an excellent opera house, Latvian National Opera only 5 minutes walk from the flat and don’t miss out on the fantastic Latvian choirs such as the Latvian Radio Choir.

The local tram service near by on Barona Street is great and very inexpensive (20c) and taxis (red ones) are good value. Avoid white ones as these are the most expensive.

30 minutes (west) away by train is Jurmala where there is 38 kilometres of white sand. The Baltic coasts are certainly worth exploring, if you want to avoid the tourists head north on the train instead the sandy beaches just continue….
It’s very reasonable on the train too.
